District  Disability Cell(DDRC) South                                                                                            

Historical Background:

The year 1981 was declared as the “International Year of the Disabled Persons-1981”. For Celebration of the year of the Disabled Persons befittingly in Tripura a State Level Meeting, prescribed over by the then Chief Minister of Tripura, Shri Nripen Chakraborty, was held on 13th January, 1981. In tune and spirit of the above meeting, the first meeting of the ADVISORY COMMITTEE for the Rehabilitation of Physically Handicapped Persons was held on 4th August, 1981 at 3 P.M. in the Council Room of Civil Secretariat under the Chairmanship of Shri Dasarath Deb, the then Hon’ble Minister for Education & Social Welfare, Govt. of Tripura, where Dr. K.L. Bhowmik, the then Medical Officer-in-Charge, ENT Department, G.B.P. Hospital, Agartala, attended as special Invitee. One of the Resolution adopted in that meeting was that the BDOs/PEOs should be requested to expedite the survey with the help of the Panchayet for the establishment of 2 (two) new Institutions for the Deaf and Dumb at Udaipur and Kailashahar (Resolution No – A.2)
